Here are a few videos of the snow we had over the past week. Although we didn’t get the snow they weather people expected it was nice to have that instead of rain or none at all. I
think we only got about a half inch but it sure did look nice coming down. I’m like a little kid waiting for it. It’s really kinda sad but I love snowbird. The first video is from Nashville and was taken during lunch on Jan. 7th. The next two videos were taken on 8th and 9th.

Merry Christmas! Christmas Newsletter 2009
Well I know it’s a cliché but Christmas seems like it came really quick this year. We have been so focused on our wedding that we sorta neglected the holidays. This posting is probably a few weeks late but I’ll try to blog about my ideals or at least what’s going on. Yesterday we went to the Dickens of a Christmas in Franklin with some friends. I’m planning on posting a few pictures on our site from this years festivities and will announce it on here and Facebook. Here is a link to some older Dickens of a Christmas pictures. Here is also a link to our Christmas newsletter. We look forward to spending time with our friends and family this Christmas. Hopefully tonight we will have our Christmas tree up and running.
My Grandma McKinley
I haven’t posted a new post on here in a long while. I told myself that I was going to try to write something fresh every couple of weeks at least but I didn’t do that. I wanted to give a shout out to my Mom who did a beautiful job and creating a montage of pictures of my Grandma Lona Bell McKinley. I just wanted to let both Mamaw and Mom how much I love you.

General update for May
It’s been a long time since I’ve updated the blog so I’ll drop a few lines. Michelle and her crew at La Petite have been raising money for one of their little fellows who nearly drowned a couple of weeks ago. I’m really proud of her for all that she does for her kids. Michelle has been working on planning our wedding. I believe that we have decided on a cruise for the honeymoon.I went home this past weekend to surprise my Mom for Mother’s Day. She was happily surprised. I took Jack with me but he is not a very good rider. At work we are still converting users from Groupwise to Outlook so that has been a big deal. Well that just about wraps it up. I’m going to make a concerted effort to start updated the blog again. Facebook is cool for fast blasts but I want to try to throw something on here with a little more content.

Review of Watchmen
I’m always hesitant to watch movies at the theater because, I guess, I am just cheap and do not want to waste money on a bad movie. I have never read the graphic novel Watchmenor a lot of other superhero literature so I didn’t know that much about the characters in the new movie. I was really surprised at how fast this 2 hour and 43 minute movie swept by me. I thought The Dark Knight and Iron Man was good but I believe this is my favorite superhero movie to date. I was shocked at how 3 dimensional the characters were. In short this movie did not pull any punches whats over. There was lots of gory violence, bad language, and nudity. In short this movie is not for the kidos.
In this day of big budget movies it’s nice to see that producers now seem to focus on the plots more than they used to. With the money that was spent on this movie it would be very easy to cut corners by throwing useless CGI at the audience. There are only a handful of movies that deal with as many characters as this movies has and gets away with it. A lot of times it seems that the characters get toned down, convulted, and washed out but it didn’t happen with Watchman.
My brother Chad would absolutely love this movie as well. Before his head injury in ’93 he was a great artist. He would draw women like Sally Jupiter. I have added a drawing that Chad made a long time ago to compare.

This American Life in Franklin, TN

I was looking through the podcast archives at This American Life and found out that they came to Cool Springs Galleria last year. The Cool Springs Galleria is one of the nicer malls in the area and Michelle and I live about 15 miles away from it. This show is kinda out there and liberal but I do believe that is the best thing on NPR. They usually tell two or three stories an episode about just about everything. For the most part the show tries to give both sides of a story. The show has been around for long time because it’s poignant and sometimes very funny. If you have never heard it you need to because it is awesome. You can find the link to the show they created in Franklin here.

Nashville English First

Well Nashvillians rejected a proposal to make the English language the official language of Metro government yesterday. It looks as though about 57% of voters believe that it would be a bad idea to have one common language to do business in. Those 57% who thought that a common language is a bad idea are not only costing themselves hundreds of thousands of dollars in unnecessary cost associated with this dumb decision, it also costs the people they are trying to protect. If a legal immigrant comes to our country wouldn’t it make more since for him and his family to learn the language that 98% of the population speaks! In a childlike attempt to be sophisticated the voters who voted this proposal down have hurt the people they are trying to protect. To really care about a group of people or a person you have to look past the easy answers. You sometimes have to do things that may hurt or hinder people at the very beginning but later on they will be better off. If these “progressive” thinking people moved to Paris or Berlin would they expect to not learn the new countries language? Let’s have some common since. Well I for one applaude Eric Crafton on his attempt to bring some common sense to government. You can read more about this story here.
